SCENERY COMMITTEE
We need some new faces for our scenery committee. Any dad, mom or teen sibling who likes painting or carpentry is welcome to come to our first meeting on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at 1:00. We have a huge amount of scenery to do this year and would appreciate any assistance you can offer!

NEW PARENT ORIENTATION
Mrs. Stovall will be offering to brief any new parents, and any parents who want a refresher, on the procedures for, and the expectations of, the ‘Spring (June 2012) Dance Concert’. There will be three meetings this year to accommodate anyone interested in the recital process, zoo week, stage make up, costume distribution, ticket distribution, parent volunteer opportunities, rehearsals, etc. This is a great time to get your questions answered. You only need to attend one of the meetings as the information covered will be the same in each one. Or come to all three! We’d love to see you there! The meetings are scheduled for Saturday, March 10, Saturday, April 21, and Saturday, May 12, 2012 each at 1:00PM. They should run about one hour.
New Parent Handbooks will be available soon. They are a valuable resource to getting through the recital process with peace of mind and enjoying every moment of your student’s performance.

CLASS ATTENDANCE
We will soon be starting choreography in some of the classes. It is extremely important that the students attend all their lessons. It is very difficult to choreograph patterns in a dance when we have students out. If you are going to be absent, please call the front desk to let your teacher know.

COSTUMES
There are still some costume deposits that have not been paid.
REMEMBER…No costume(s) will be ordered without a deposit.
The costume deposit is $50 per performance class. If a costume is ordered late, there will be additional shipping fees. These will be passed to the student. I have already started the ordering process.

STUDIO CLOSINGS
Remember, if you are not sure whether we are open on bad weather days, call the studio and select #3. We do not necessarily go by what the Prince William County Public Schools do. Our measure for closing is SAFETY.

WINTER CONCERT
(JANUARY 2012)
This year’s Winter Concert, featuring some faculty members and selected students in dance, music and drama, will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2012 at 7:00 PM at C.D. Hylton High School. The address is 14051 Spriggs Road, Woodbridge, VA.

We will have a special guest artist, Calvin Gentry, who performs with the Pointillism Jazz Consort.

Tickets are $10.00. We are offering Dance Etc. students a discounted ticket of $5.00. We hope you will attend the concert and give our students and faculty your support. I know that you’ll enjoy it and many of the students will be able to watch their teachers perform.

There will be a DVD of this performance available for purchase. Please see the desk for an order form.


DRESS CODE
I have noticed, walking through some classes, some students are not adhering to our dress code in class. Please talk to your daughter or son about this.


DISCARDED CLOTHES
There are so many items of clothing that have been left at the studio. On February 1, 2012, I will be sending them to a charitable organization. Please check Studio C’s bathroom to see if any items belong to you.

LET’S BRAG ABOUT OUR KIDS
Samantha Carter was nominated an accepted into the People to People Student Ambassador program. Her delegation will be going to Australia this summer.

A SPECIAL THANK YOU
Thank you to all of the students and faculty that helped with the special performance for Ms. Owen at the Golden Living Center last month. It was wonderful to be so well received by the residents and by Ms. Owen herself! Dance Etc. was very fortunate to have Barbara Owen on our faculty for so long. We miss her!
